The Canton Historical Museum Library

Our renovated library and research center is ready for increased activity related to the upcoming Town of Canton Bicentennial in 2006.  Librarian, Kathy Jenkins, is anxious to help all inquisitive visitors and researchers.
The Canton Historical Museum Library is located on the second floor of the museum. The library maintains a collection of historical materials regarding Canton and Collinsville. Special focus is given to the Collins Company and it's archives.

Resources:

Records: Federal census for Canton, West Simsbury on microfilms, military records, obituaries, deeds,town reports, records of local organizations.

Manuscripts: old diaries, letters, genealogies, ledgers, scrapbooks, account books, biographies, and works of local historians.

Publications: Newspaper clippings, issuses of theLure of the Litchfield Hills, books of history and subjects of local interest.

School History: yearbooks, school records, class photographs.

Railroads: historical articles, photographs.

Photographic Collection: historical houses, businesses, churches, people, flood of 1955, local scenes.

Tapes and Transcriptions: interviews with resdents, museum lectures.

The library is staffed by volunteers. Researchers are welcome by appointment. Call (860) 693-2793 and leave name number and area of interest. Cost of copies is 25 cents a page plus postage costs if necessary.

A Winter Lecture Series of four lectures is held on Sundays afternoons in Feb. and March on topics of local historical interest. See our Special Events Page.
